Cardiac Output - When the heart muscle is exercised it grows stronger and is able to increase the amount of blood pumped to the body with each heart beat. Because each beat sends a greater amount of blood, the heart is able to supply the body's needs with fewer beats. If you lower your heart rate from 70 bpm (beats per minute) to 60 bpm, your heart will beat 14,400 fewer times each day. Over a ten year period that amounts to a "savings" of 52,596,000 heart beats!
There are many more benefits of being involved in a fitness program; many of them will be especially meaningful to you. As you progress on your fitness journey, look for and recognize these benefits. Share them with those around you and celebrate your commitment to living an active lifestyle.
