Are You Ready?
Before participating in any fitness program it is important for you to asses your health to determine whether there are any undue risks or restrictions that would impact your fitness plans. The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology has developed a set of excellent health assessment tools that will help you determine what impact, if any, your current health condition will have on your fitness program.
The following document should be used by everyone planning to participate in a fitness program and should be reviewed yearly or whenever your health condition changes.
Physical
Activity Readiness Questionnaire *:
Question 7 of the PAR-Q asks if you know of any other reason you should not do physical activity. There may be some conditions you have not thought of that could affect your exercise plans. Please take a moment to review this list of Additional Health Concerns that should be addressed with your doctor.
If you answered "Yes" to any of the questions in PAR-Q (above), you should print the following document and ask your doctor to review it with you. Let your doctor know what your plans are for becoming more physically active and discuss any risks or restrictions your health condition might require.
Physical
Activity Readiness Medical Examination *:
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, you will want to have the safest pregnancy possible. By printing the following document and asking your doctor to review it with you, you will be taking steps that will help ensure your safety and the safety of your baby. Discuss your fitness plans with your doctor and ask if any restrictions are necessary.
Physical
Activity Readiness Medical Examination for Pregnancy *:
If you have filled out and you honestly answered "No" to the PAR-Q questions and have reviewed and addressed all of the Additional Health Concerns with your doctor, you are ready to take the next step of Starting an Exercise Program.
